Continuous Improvement

We provide lean management consulting across industries and geographies, focusing on strategy, organization, operations, advanced analytics, and technology. Our deep functional expertise enables us to capture value across boundaries. Maximizing the sum of its parts maximizes the potential of an organization.

History of Lean

In business, the word "lean" is often associated with Toyota. However, it is important to point out that Eli Whitney made the discovery of interchangeable parts in Venice in the 1450s in 1799. It was first introduced into manufacturing by Henry Ford in 1913, when he experimented with moving and integrating parts in order to achieve Standard Work. As a result, this system was limited in terms of variety. After World War II, Toyota developed the Toyota Production System (TPS) in response to Henry Ford's moving production line.

By reducing the costs of production, improving product quality, and increasing throughput times, this system aims to satisfy the needs of the dynamic customer.

CONTINUOUS PROCESS IMPROVEMENT MODEL

The plan-do-check-act (PDCA) cycle is one of the most widely used quality assurance tools for the continuous improvement model:

  • Plan: Identify an opportunity and plan for change.
  • Do: Implement the change on a small scale.
  • Check: Use data to analyze the results of the change and determine whether it made a difference.
  • Act: If the change was successful, implement it on a wider scale and continuously assess your results. If the change did not work, begin the cycle again.
